Weekly TBR

Image
This week I have a couple of great books on my TBR. I'm right on track on my reading goal for this year so I'm feeling good about my momentum!  These are my choices for this week! I have work and a lot of school work to catch up on but both seem to be pretty binge-able books!  What are you reading this week?

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

I really wasn't sure I was going to like this one, even after getting into it. I remarked to my partner how this book was a lot of politics and religion with a sprinkle of fantasy elements mixed in. I think it was about 75% world building and the rest was the action-y stuffs. I DID care about the characters and felt that they were all very well written. There were times where the story seemed to drag a bit, BUT after finishing the book I realized that those draggy parts were super important especially to take the reader (and the characters) straight to the conclusion. This was apparently Sanderon's first book, and it does show a bit. The writing is wonderful, but there were, as previously mentioned, a few parts where I as the reader was like.."Just get to the point!" However, in my opinion the slog through those bits were well worth it! The characters were all nicely fleshed out. My only irk with that aspect was the character of Adien, he comes through near the end a

WEEKEND READING A SORTA KINDA MAYBE READATHON TYPE DEAL SITUATION

Image
I am pledging to read as much as I can this weekend! I've done all the things (minus my work shifts and spending time with my sweetie) and now I will read read read!  I am hoping to finish Elantris and get a really good start (if not finish) into something else! I am not behind behind on my goal yet...but I do want to not fail it.  I have snacks, I have coffee, tea and energy dranks that will help me fuel my reading sprints. I will keep a log of what I read (pages, time, etc) First up:  Elantris starting page: 203 out of 535 ^*totes accurate representation of me this weekend* I finished Elantris, read about 10 hours total all weekend (in fits and starts) and am pleased!

Weekly TBR *In Which I Admit I Sucked At Reading Last Week*

Image
So I did absolutely abysmal in the reading (and pretty much everything else) department last week. I did read some but I didn't finish a single book. So I will continue plowing through Elantris and hopefully will finish it up and get caught up.  So it looks like this:    Finish This One Potentials:

The Secret History by Donna Tart (Spoilers)

So I have had this book on my shelf for years, I honestly do not remember how or when I acquired it but it's been just sitting there collecting dust. I've recently discovered (very late) Booktube and this was on a few of the lists. I figured why not?  I spent the first hundred or so pages kind of like...okay so this is a book about rich douchebags being douchey..what's so secret about that? That's when the IT hits the SHAN. Things had percolated so well that it kind of  made me do a Shatner. So it went from zero to a bijillionity in like 50 pages and I was not sure I was ready for it! I honesty didn't know what to think. This book too me for a ride. I didn't like any of the characters at their core. Even Richard, our main man, had me shaking my head. Like bro, I know you are wanting to be considered part of the group but once you find out that part of that group has murdered someone in their own yard in the middle of some douchey rich bro's bacchanal ritual

My Weekly TBR

So I made some ultra extra lofty goals last week! I wanted to read 3 books, but only managed to finish 1. Not a total loss, but I learned my lesson. This week I plan on finishing one and I have a couple set aside just in case... So here is the one I plan on finishing up.  Then my "just in case" stack that I will be going to IF I finish Elantris. Let me know what you are plowing into this week! I want to stack up quite a lovely future TBR for myself!

Bloody Fool For Love: A Spike Prequel by William Ritter

Image
Oh lordy, when I say that I am a Buffy fan I am not even close to meaning "I watched the show a few times and liked it" what I mean is that I am a HUGE Buffy fan! I have watched the show in its entirety at least 3 times, many episodes more than a handful. I LOVE Buffy. My teenage self made websites, read fanfiction and even dabbled in a little writing of it too. (All terrible and gratefully seemingly erased from the internets by now!)  One of my absolute favorite characters (and one I can go on wild tangents for hours about) was Spike. William the Bloody was one of the best characters that I had ever seen on tv. Fans of Buffy fall into two camps..Team Angel or Team Spike..and I'm sure you are guessing which cabin I was sleeping in? Yup! Spike! Angel was boring as dry white toast....and he had bad hair.  Anyway, when I saw this book was about Spike and also a prequel to the show, I immediately bought it. Loved the cover art and of course, started to relive all of my fan

The Books On My TBR for This Week

Image
I have lofty goals for this week, I want to read 3 books by Sunday! I think I can do it, it would be unprecedented but I think I can manage it. So I've picked a mix of genres for these books.   I started all three of these in 2023, but never finished. So I won't be going in without some progress though I might just restart them all.  What are you reading?

My First Selection For 2024

Image
Welcome 2024! I am hoping you are less sucktastic as 2023 was! So I'm slipping back to my youth and picking a book that reminds me of my teenage years, so here be my first selection of the year!  This will also by my first pick for #BoutofBooks! I LOVE Buffy and Spike was my favorite character so this feels like the perfect way to kick off the year's reading! I will leave you with these words of advice from the man himself....

Happy New Year

Image
Here's to a new year and new goals and experiences! I'm setting some goals (how original?!) concerning books, my health-both mental and body, and financial. This new blog is going to be a place for me to dump my thoughts about things that make me happy. You will see book reviews, movie and tv show reviews, music stuff, and just anything that I'm focused on in general.  Bookish Goals:  I plan on reading 50 books this year. There will be a list on the sidebar of what I've read. I plan on reviewing at least one book a week.  Body/Health Goals: I want to lose 20lbs minimum. I'd love more but 20 seems more reasonable. I want to hit 10k steps a day.  I want to do one 30 minute workout a day.  Drink more water and less caffeine. Stick to my weight watcher's (not endorsed) points a day.  Financial Goals: Be more frugal.  Save at least 1k by the end of the year. (More would be lovely but things be costing a lot now!)
